About AMRAD, Associação Portuguesa de Amadores de Rádio para a Investigação Educação e Desenvolvimento.
AMRAD - is an Portuguese Society of Amateurs of the Radio for Research, Education and Development.
AMRAD are a non-profit and non–governmental organization for the educational and scientific study of electronics, aerospace and radio communication, to provide amateur radio communication services for the public.
The AMRAD members is filiating on International Amateur Radio Union.
The AMRAD was formed in January 2002 by a group of 35 Portuguese citizens or amateur radio operators and 3 other associations.
Over this years, AMRAD we have grown to about 250 members, which allowed us to expand the association activities.
The AMRAD was incorporated in April 2002 as a non-profit organization for education and development.
AMRAD was incorporated in March 2002 as a Portuguese AMSAT-CT the delegation of AMSAT, The Radio Amateur Satellite Corporation and ARISS-Europe, Amateur Radio on the International Space Station member.
Our purpose is "to create interest in amateur radio, to promote study and experimentation in amateur communications, to further the art and to provide a common bond for all those interested in amateur radio."
Somme activities that AMRAD members and youngsters are involved with include:
- provide training for all amateur radio license classes,
- provide voluntary examination sessions for all license classes,
- provide scholarships for basic and high school students,
- provide message traffic - personal, health, and welfare emergencies via the national traffic telecommunication system for comply the national plane of emergency communications and integrated SNBPC the national service of civil protection.
- provide severe weather reports, weather watching, road closings, for the national weather service under the OMM network,
- provide environmental and atmospheric teledetection,
- provide radio astronomy and deep space communications,
- provide satellite developments and aerospace communications,
- provide public service radio communications for local government and charitable group events, and cooperation with other people,
- participate in SNBPC and Cruz Vermelha (Red Cross) emergency preparedness drills and similar programs,
- participate in the amateur radio Field Day - an exercise in emergency preparedness with amateurs around the world.
